D Furnell (Letters, October 2), appears to be confused about what he perceives as UKIP’s policies.

UKIP believes:

1. We should control our borders and give skilled people around the world an equal opportunity to apply for work in the UK. This includes people from the Commonwealth.

2. Those earning less than £13K per annum should be exempt from paying income tax.

It was Mr Furnell’s party that threw the doors wide open to unskilled labour from eastern Europe, to the detriment of our own citizens.

His party actually pioneered privatisation of the NHS, through the Private Finance Initiative which built hospitals, but now creams off millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money in profits; Princess Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, is a prime example.

Perhaps he has selective memory-loss.
