I WAS rather surprised by P G Hawkins’ comments about the change in daylight hours.
I lived in Chester for many years and I know that on the shortest day it gets light there at 9.30am and is dark at 3pm.
It is not, as Mr Hawkins suggests, the same throughout England, suddenly changing at the ‘man made’ Scottish border. It is different in Birmingham, Manchester and Carlisle and very naive to think differently.
