REGARDING the sale of Sports Centre land being “a last resort”: goodness, our councillors have been given all the answers they need about the Sports Centre already – what on earth is wrong with them?

There is absolutely no need to consider selling off even one inch of the Sports Centre. What you do need to do –- and this has been pointed out to you on numerous occasions already – is: 1) Finish the Sports Centre Improvement Plan – and that means working with residents, user groups and others so that a multi-user solution can be found which will benefit the greatest number of users.

2) Put in a bid – or a series of bids – for grant funding. The Sports Centre is highly eligible for lottery or other funding as it is very well used by a multitude of different groups and individuals, and is also close to areas of deprivation. All of this looks good to funding bodies.

What you are suggesting here is lazy and a really second-rate, short-term solution.

Please do your homework, get envisioned like the rest of us are, and get involved.

Let’s do something wonderful at the Sports Centre instead of just seeing it as potential land for development.
