FURTHER to the letter of November 22 regarding hospital parking, the availability and cost of parking at Southampton General Hospital (SGH) has always been an issue. Even the disabled are expected to queue for a space and pay the full cost of parking.

Parking charges are made at other hospitals and it could be argued that those charges are needed to help with the running costs of those hospitals.

However those charges should be reasonable as in the case of Lymington hospital, where they average less than £1 per hour.

As an alternative to parking on site at SGH there is parking on some roads adjacent to the hospital. Depending on where you park, you have an option of parking for one or two hours, free of charge.
