WHILE concurring with Dennis B Wilson’s view on the NHS (Letters, November 24), he did miss one point.

The Health Act 1946 which set up the NHS stated that treatment was free with some exceptions. One of those exceptions was if the illness or injury was self-inflicted.

That is, if it was your fault you did not get free treatment. The NHS has not really implemented this, otherwise smokers would have to pay for treatment for lung cancer, and drunks for being patched up after fights.

I am sure your readers can think of many other cases.
