When will the chiefs of mental health services in Southampton realise that the closure of many day services for those with mental health issues living in the community has left us to paddle our own canoes?
Why are people being forced to wander the streets because there are virtually no appropriate places where people can spend time in a “safe” setting?
Some of us are lucky; we have voluntary work to go to, and there are a few “drop-ins”, notably “creative options”. But much more is needed. And, of course, it all comes down – as usual – to money.
SARAH-JANE HERSCHEL, Southampton.
