I VOLUNTARILY collect litter from around my local area and yesterday a slightly damaged Asda shopping trolley was abandoned in my street.
After a Google search on “returning trolleys” I discovered that there is little or no possibility of this being retrieved by Asda (the nearest Asda store is in the city centre) so today I took the trolley to my local recycling centre, in Grange Road, Netley Abbey, only to be told, by an inspector there, that they are not allowed to receive shopping trolleys.
On a similar previous occasion some time ago this was not a problem. Nevetheless today, much against the inspector’s wishes, I left the Asda trolley at the recycling centre rather than take it home again. It strikes me that such a fussy attitude about what may be accepted at recycling centres can only encourage fly-tipping.
