AT about 6.15pm on the evening of Tuesday, January 13 my daughter left her mother’s house after a visit with her little girl, this being in Middle Road, Sholing.

She placed her handbag on the car roof (not the wisest thing to do, I must say) while she strapped her daughter into the car seat. She then got into the car and drove away.

On hearing an unusual noise she realised very quickly that it was her bag falling off the roof.

She pulled in as soon as she could safely do so, turned around and went back up the road.

However, in that short time someone either on the road walking or driving had picked up the bag and vanished.

Her bag fortunately only had a small amount of cash and a bank card, the rest of the contents were only of use to her; a small folder with details of her work at a local school, a pair of unmarked keys and an internal security key also connected with her work.

Although there would be very little chance of getting cash back, the contents were useless to anyone else. He or she could have made some attempt to return it in some way. My wife and I walked down both sides of the road the next day looking over walls and into hedges without any luck. All the theft of her bag did was to thoroughly inconvenience my daughter. So much for honesty, not much of it about these days I’m afraid.
