WITH reference to the Daily Echo of January 17 regarding mobility scooters, three years ago my 73-year-old mother was walking along Bedford Place, Southampton, when she was hit from behind and hurtled into the road by a mobility scooter which was being driven by a man who had a woman passenger sitting on his lap, completely obstructing his view.

They too did not stop at the scene of the accident but drove away, completely oblivious to what they had done.

Witnesses to the accident said that they were riding along the pavement very fast.

My mother sustained three broken bones in her leg and ankle and injuries to her arm.

I completely agree with Michael Needle that action should be taken to make it law that the drivers of these vehicles should have some form of test to make sure they can handle them correctly and they should definitely be insured in case of any accidents incurred to other people.
