IN a recent Daily Echo [article] Southampton City Council leader Simon Letts announced closures of day care services for adults with severe learning difficulties.
He also said he would not close the individuals’ placement until a suitable placement was in place.
A reader seeing this statement may think that Simon Letts has made this decision by himself.
But actually under the 2014 Care Act the council by law must implement an individual assessment for every adult. Also the Care Act stipulates a council must not close a day service until a suitable replacement care place is up and running.
