So long to take action over pets

WE ARE delighted to learn (RSPCA raids bungalow, Daily Echo, January 27) that the approximately 20 dogs and some cats kept by Mrs Hobblethwaite at Lynch Close, Winchester, have at last been rescued by the RSPCA - with the help of the police, environmental health officer and three vets.

We were first alerted to the conditions in which the animals were kept in March of last year. In spite of continued pressure on the authorities, in particular the environmental health department, it has taken nearly a year for action to be taken.

In all that time there poor animals suffered, the dogs muzzled and kept three to a cage. Several had to be put down at once.
