They get paid the same or less than our fighting men.

At 18 years old, after ten weeks’ training, I found myself in the Malayan jungle, expected to fight communist terrorists that had been there for ten years. If it was not for the Gurkhas attached to our regiment, we would have lost a lot more men. They tought me how to fight and we needed them. We are obliged to look after them.
