THE first Community Clear-Up Day takes place tomorrow.
As someone who is passionate about getting rid of the scourge of litter that blights our public places, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage Hampshire residents from all backgrounds to seize the day – as I will be doing – and join in any community events to spring clean their neighbourhoods.
Litter has a huge impact on the quality of our streets and public spaces. The latest Government figures suggest councils in England spend more than £800 million every year on street cleansing.
This is an opportunity for everyone, from all walks of life, to do their bit in keeping all public spaces in Hampshire clean and tidy, and to take pride in where they live and work.
CLLR ROY PERRY, Leader of Hampshire County Council.
