Shame on all those people who sent hateful abuse to the staff of the Southampton General Hospital Neuro Unit after the Ashya King case!

They knew nothing of the background and complexities of the case and yet vilified those doing their best to care for the little boy who was suffering from a brain tumour.

If they, the abusers, ever find themselves under the care of the Neuro Unit staff, they will find highly skilled, professional, hard-working people who always keep the best interests of their patients at the heart of any treatment.

They deserve bouquets, not brickbats. Apologies would not go amiss, either.

SANDRA HORN, Southampton.
