Next month will see the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta, so as the UKIP candidate for the Swaythling ward last time around I would like to thank all those that got off their backsides and voted, not just those that voted for me, but all who exercised their democratic responsibility.

Unfortunately I suspect that it is possible that Labour are about to yet again elect the wrong, union favoured, leader.

Whilst canvassing for UKIP in April and May I lost count of the numbers of Labour voters who said they were voting for me and Sandra James because they recalled Andy Burham a few years ago saying that the fluoridation of drinking water should be universal.

This, of course, apart from being very undemocratic, suggests that yet again Labour may end up with the wrong leader which would be a tragedy for their party.

Having met Yvette Cooper on an occasion when she came to Southampton some time ago, I have no doubt myself on just who the best leader of the Labour party should be.

At the time I thought her husband Ed Balls came across as more intellectual than he seems on telly, but Yvette Cooper is probably the cleverest and open person I have ever met.

In the unlikely event that Cameron actually gives us the promised in/out EU referendum I would worry about the future of my own party, but I am convinced that this will not happen and that this will lead to a Lib Dem style collapse of the Conservative party.

Should this happen a Labour party led by Andy Burnham will find UKIP to be a very able adversary, as unlike the trade unions we believe the democratic rights of the people to be more important than benefits to the party.
