ALAN Kebbel’s “In My View” (our Unions have become seriously degraded) contains so many inaccuracies that it cannot go unchallenged.

In his opinion, the unions are backing TUSC by hastening the demise of Labour.

I suppose that is the reason why they put millions of pounds into Labour’s general election campaign and thousands of its members were out pounding the streets to win support for the Party.

He then goes on to imply that Jeremy Corbyn condones terrorism.

Jeremy is a peace-loving man, he is the vice-chair of CND, but he does speak out against all forms of oppression and, during the 1980’s, the nationalist community in Northern Ireland did suffer from discrimination, a fact that is now widely recognised.

Could it be that Mr Kebbel failed to grasp the details of what Jeremy was saying in relation to Ireland.

He argues that for the unions to support Corbyn shows how degraded they have become.

In my view, it makes perfect sense for them to back him – after all, he is the candidate who most clearly identifies with their policies and their aims.

He refuses to scapegoat immigrants, benefit claimants and the disabled; he sticks up for the vulnerable and he believes everyone is entitled to a decent home and a secure job on good pay – financed by greater public investment sourced by progressive taxation on those who can easily afford it.

He supports the public sector and opposes privatisation. He rejects austerity, whether full-blown or lite, and has said “the country can’t cut its way to prosperity.”

As a UKIP member, perhaps Mr Kebbel could explain how they’re fighting austerity.

In a TV interview following the budget, one of their spokesman said they supported Osborne’s changes to Inheritance Tax which benefits 6 per cent of the population – so much for their concern for ordinary people.
