ON FRIDAY I met with Cllr Trevor Cartwright, executive member for public protection, for a meeting at the civic offices to discuss some of the proposals the council officers had put forward to solve the Wickham Road parking problem, following the concerns we raised during a review of the road.
We agreed that certainly some yellow lines were needed, there were a couple of scenarios we examined in detail, both involving significant yellow line usage, with varying amounts of parking retained.
We agreed that the yellow lines needed to go in, especially on the narrow stretches of the road, to ensure smooth traffic flow.
The idea to retain some parking is so that residents can still park there and the cars would act as a natural deterrent to speeding.
Talks were productive and there will be a positive outcome from them in the near future, with the new yellow lines going down in the coming months. I hope to provide an update soon.
