RADIO Solent rose to the occasion on the day after David Bowie’s death with their instantly revised playlist. Also Alex Dyke delivered a comprehensive musical tribute on Saturday, as well as featuring memories of dear old Ed (Stewpot) Stewart, who we also lost on the same sad weekend.

Unfortunately, in a packed show, Alex wasn’t able to include the memories of gigs in our area by the great man from info that I, and no doubt others, submitted for airing.

Do any other readers have memories, particularly of the fantastic concert by David and his band (alias Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars) at Southampton Guildhall in May (or June?) 1972.

His guitarist (and subsequent studio console wizzard) Mick Ronson, was amazing.

His death, also of liver cancer I believe, two decades ago, went virtually unmarked by the media. And who noticed bassist Trevor Bolder’s passing, a couple of years back?

Sadly, I have no tangible proof of my presence at the momentous gig, a few rows back from the stage.

The (50p!) ticket stub seems to have vanished, and someone, with prescience, secured my free band poster for a song!

Somewhere though, in a drawer, should lurk the Echo review. Worth reprinting?
