I WAS very interested to read in the Letters page about 20mph areas and how it would require public backing.
I would like to give you a few positives and as our community in the Maybush Triangle area has 20mph speed limit I have first hand had valuable experience.
Two very vivid near misses come to mind.
(1) when a small child ran straight out in front of my car if I had been going 30 I believe we would have had a fatality instead of a very frightened little girl.
(2) when a young adult with an iPod walked across the road in front of my car not aware of approaching traffic, once again I was able to react in time.
I have heard of other incidents from the community. Two well-known facts are slower traffic increases traffic flow and reduces pollution and as we are already struggling with high pollution I feel 20mph is a win win situation. I feel communities would welcome a safer environment in whatever form.
