IN REGARDS to the Eastleigh plan to which Mr Betts implores the people to contribute their views, has he spoken to those who last time tried so hard to be heard?

I guess I was, by virtue of his definition, perhaps guilty of uttering 'Weasel Words'. I made a few points in regards to the proposed Boorley Green development. One was, the original plan said it was “essential” that a Botley main road bypass be in place. When the council were advised by the authorities responsible for such roads that this bypass was not a realistic prospect, how did the council get round it? They just crossed out the word “essential” in the revised draft!

I also pointed out that a hotel company, once hostile towards the council's financial support of the Rose Bowl Hotel development, and in fact lead the call for a Judicial Review, decided to withdraw from its right to take the appeal to the next stage.

A behind-closed-doors private meeting was held, no full report was to be made available, but a joint statement of both parties being satisfied was issued.

I can not claim there to be anything untoward, but the MacDonalds Hotel Golf Course was confirmed as being a preferred site to build something like 1,400 houses.

Meanwhile, as this established golf course is about to be destroyed, a new one hardly two miles away is being built, supported by the council and Lottery funding!

If not apathetic, maybe the people who care are just so disillusioned and mistrustful of those whose words we are told we can trust.
