I TOTALLY agree with the ‘Student Flats’ letter (Jeff Davis, 14/4/16) and believe we might consider changing the name of our city to Studenthampton.
It’s absolutely true, almost every spare piece of land, every vacated building including offices and houses are turned into student accommodation.
Once the students have achieved whatever it is they set out to achieve I’m sure they don’t all decide to stay in Southampton (Studenthampton) so when they vacate there must be plenty of empty accommodation for the next intake. Why do we need more and more?
What about the people of Southampton? Some are staying on council house waiting lists for years and many are living in overcrowded accommodation whilst they wait.
Enough is enough, let’s have more affordable homes and housing for the people who live here.
