I READ your article “Anger at derelict blot on skyline” (August 16, 2016) with much interest.
As a resident of Swaythling, I cannot help but agree that it is a disgrace that this monstrosity should have been allowed to stand in its dilapidated state for so long.
It is high time that Southampton University took responsibility for clearing it. The institution’s priorities instead seem to lie elsewhere in creating (equally horrible) student accommodation. How much did it cost them to build the infamous “fag butt”?
Shame on Southampton University. Shame on Southampton Council which I am sure has enforcement powers.
I hope to work with Councillor Mintoff to ensure that the building is consigned to the dustbin of history as soon as possible – and not replaced with anything similar.
