RECENTLY there has been an increase in fly-tipping incidents around the Warsash, Locksheath, Hook, Titchfield areas - whenever I see piles of builders waste, I take photos and report to on the Fareham Borough Council website.

Having spoken to one of the FBC operatives tasked to clear yet another fly-tipping load, he said that the Recycling Centres now have to charge registered businesses for taking certain items to the centres, something put in place by Hampshire County Council.

The companies don’t want to pay, so they fly-tip the building waste, leaving the local council to clear up, which costs them from their budget, not from the HCC budget.

There is also talk and rumours of the local recycling centres either being closed, or running on reduced hours - have any of the councillors actually been there on a weekend, when you can queue out of the Segensworth centre, right out to the roundabout 100m down the road?

I was under the impression we wee being encouraged to recycle more?
I can’t see how the FBC or HCC are going to stop fly-tipping by closing or reducing the working hours of the centres, or by making charges to the companies who previously (mostly) used them.

There are always instances when people or companies are just too lazy to drive to recycling centres, but I’ve not seen fly-tipping like this before.
