HOW disappointing to read that D Beard believes that a ‘full ban’ on cyclists would be a good idea!
At first I thought this letter was a spoof, but on more careful reading I could see the writer has a deep-rooted hatred of all cyclists – good, bad, young and old.
Yes, riding on pavements and without lights at night are offences but a ‘yellow top’ is only advisable.
Sadly it is bigoted attitudes like D Beard’s that make life on the road difficult for the huge majority of safe cyclists who are contributing to improvements in the nation’s levels of health and fitness and of course helping reduce greenhouse emissions.
If, as implied, the writer is a motorist who has been ‘pestered’ by the police for ‘minor offences’, then clearly the police are doing a great job!
