WHILE walking my small dog last Wednesday morning I had the misfortune somehow to fall flat on my face and meet Mr Tarmac.

At 79 years of age I was somewhat distressed and shocked when out of nowhere came two “angels” who picked me up, put me in a car and, complete with dog, was driven to A&E at Southampton General Hospital.

It didn’t end there, however, because a young lady saw me safely into the waiting area while the young male driver proceeded to my home with my dog where he found a neighbour to look after him.

I would very much like to thank these two people but all I know is the young man driving was called “Callum” and the young lady who stayed with me as long as she could was “Hillary” and she worked in radiography at the SGH.

These are all the details I have but their care and concern was fantastic to say the least and how many people would take a strange dog to its home, especially a Yorkie cross which can be unpredictable in its behaviour.

They were both late for work and the lady also phoned my family. With so much bad news these it is wonderful to be able to know such wonderful people exist.

Thankfully, I am mending and my dog is holidaying with a family member.

In addition to this, owing to the current problems with illness, A&E was very, very busy, we were lined up on beds and there were full bays.

BUT... all the staff were considerate, efficient and good humoured and I can only speak highly of every one of them that I met.
