HAVING just been hired as editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper, calls for George Osborne MP to resign his seat in Parliament are rightly justified.

It might be that the ex-Chancellor has become somewhat bitter for getting fired by the PM Theresa May and is out to prove that he really is good enough to work everywhere and anywhere – he now has six jobs in total!

Just three of his jobs are already netting him in total over a £1.5m and with London weighting the editing job will be another pot of gold at £200,000 or so. Surely there is a whiff of corruption within the secret world of power and politics?

But perhaps Mr Osborne might yet have bitten off more than he can chew. The editor of one of the country’s most famous regional newspapers will be required to complete a real workload so as to justify his salary. The conflict of interest and his serial moonlighting will be a big toll on his work life.

It is hardly likely Mr Osborne has signed up to a zero hours contract to work on the paper. And were it not for the fact his Cheshire constituency of Tatton is being rubbed out prior to the 2020 elections due to boundary changes; he could have been sacked by the electorate for doing another lousy job for our country.
