SPEAKING to an old family friend the other day, I was horrified to hear her tell me that the bus she used to get no longer stops near her house.
She’s in her late seventies and is finding it increasingly difficult to get around, her daughter is incredibly busy with not just work – but looking after her disabled daughter too.
She is not alone.
Her story is remarkably similar to that of many who I’ve spoken to over the last few years, residents are simply finding it more and more difficult to get around.
Why?
If you speak to councillors, they say it’s the fault of the bus companies.
If you speak to the bus companies, they blame the cuts to subsidies.
It’s all politically motivated finger pointing exercises.
We deserve better than this.
These are people’s lives, not some sort of game.
