ON SUNDAY, January 6, I received a phone call to say my 86-year-old mother had fallen over in Colne Avenue, Millbrook and was hurt in her flat. When I got down there I found two young women had helped my mum into her home and had administered first aid.

I was worried about mum and after talking to the two ladies I decided to take her to hospital. I thanked the two women but I did not take any names except for Becky. In my rush I didn’t take any phone numbers either.

When we got to the General hospital we received terrific service. We were in the hospital around six hours but in that time my mother received great treatment from all the staff in the emergency department. In the end my battered, bruised and confused mum was allowed home but not before X-rays and tests and, above all, great service from all concerned. Two names especially stood out – Dr Benjamin McKee and staff nurse Tony Jennings. They worked hard and were both very good at dealing with an elderly patient.

My mother is on the mend now and for this I’m glad, but I’m especially happy to live in a town where people still care about others. I’d like to thank all the people who helped. They were great. If either of the two ladies, who went out their way to help mum would get in touch she would like to them them personally. But in any case, many many thanks to all who helped us.
