A BROTHER who was heartbroken after losing his sister is battling for a tribute to her before a live performance of her favourite song.

Boyd Hayward has launched a campaign for the Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl to dedicate their track Walk to his sister Rebecca, who passed away aged 28 back in 2012.

The Solent University graduate was found in her Ocean Village flat in June six years ago, and an inquest heard how she had passed away from Sudden Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), something that is still not fully understood by medics.

Boyd has now pledged to see the rock band dedicate the hit song – Rebecca’s favourite – to her when they play in London this June.

The date of the gig is also significant to Boyd. The band perform in the capital on June 22, with the anniversary of Rebecca’s death on June 23.

Boyd, 38, said: “The idea just came to me really, and the gig will soon come round so I wanted to just get the ball rolling.

“Rebecca’s death came just before my mum Jeannie passed away from heart failure – of a broken heart really.

“I had this idea and my girlfriend just told me to go for it.”

Boyd said that he had seen the band do previous dedications at other concerts, and said that it would mean the world to him if the band was to come through.

Boyd, who lives in Warsash, added: “We did go to see Foo Fighters together in 2005, although we kind of got separated.

“We got there nice and early in London and Rebecca thought we had a great spot but of course closer to the time all of these people started piling in.

“She just had this affection to the song, and I did too – I still do, so it would mean the world to me.”

After the death of his sister, Boyd had pledged to raise awareness of SUDEP, and hopes this dedication could do just that.
