THE threatened action by unions to disrupt the opening of the SeaCity Museum is just a final act of desperation in a year of fruitless efforts to motivate their members.
There is no point in trying to milk an empty cow. When will they wake up and accept the facts?
The unions represent but a small percentage of employees and do not have public opinion on their side.
It is merely a movement of activists left in an era long since forgotten.
It’s a disgrace that they could even consider such an action given this city’s connections with maritime history and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
How sad they cannot produce one constructive idea from within their organisation to put Southampton up front for one day when the press will be upon us.
Union disputes have in the past been settled by subtle negotiations and guile but this final threat has sunk to the lowest level and is steeped in utter desperation.
Royston Smith needs to change the opening day to a Sunday when we will see how much support the unions have. It will give all citizens of Southampton the opportunity to attend and support this venture and put an end to this striking nonsense.
BRIAN BURGE, Southampton.

The empty cow that you speak of, appears to have enough milk to feed this white elephant.
