Sad story of woman ‘forced from her home’

HOW very sad it was to hear the story of Pat Othen, having to leave her home (Daily Echo, January 20).

Had Pat not mentioned university students you would imagine she was referring to a lot of out-ofwork drunken yobs.

No, these are so-called university students, who have no respect their fellow beings and these people are supposed to be the brains of our future! What future?

The university, the police and Southampton City Council say they are trying to solve this problem.

This has been going on for some years, I find this so strange that so many people are trying to solve this problem when surely the simple answer is to throw them out of the university.

They are a disgrace to their fellow students, and no credit to anyone, so why educate them?

If they represent our future, heaven help us.

ARTHUR HANLON, Southampton.

It's all down to money! Uni FEES. As long as they get paid they won't care

There is a good point of view with some horrific details in the " In My View" section of the Daily Echo for Saturday 28th.
It seems that there has been a complete breakdown in community relations due to some louse up by the
people involved with the Solent Uni.
Do the Chancellor/Chairs/ Deans/ Vice Chairs at the Uni have any idea what a mess they are in ?

We have regular problems with students from the Solent Uni. Screaming females late at night, large raucous groups outside our homes at night when the children have to get up for school the next day, broken glass where our children play, puddles of vomit, mountains of litter, thefts from and vandalism of our garden... neither the students or their parents pay the council tax bill for cleaning up this mess... perhaps we need to start charging the Uni's for the clean up so they can pass on the cost to those responsible? Until there is an expectation that these 18+ year olds behave like adults it might be an idea to refuse them the freedoms responsible adults enjoy... curfews and chaperoned activities might be an idea until they can behave appropriately! Just in case anybody thinks the students may not be the cause of these problems, it's interesting to note that during the summer, Easter and Christmas breaks when most of the students go home a lot of these problem disappear entirely and others are drastically reduced.
