Folly of SeaCity Museum

THE headline of the Daily Echo of January 20 are somewhat misleading – how can you ruin something that’s already ruined?

Now that Hannides’ folly has been exposed in all its “glory”, what are we, the general public, whose money has been annexed to fund this, to make of it?

It looks like it has been built by a drunken bricklayer working from a Heath Robinson design.

While it may be well worth seeing inside, that does not detract from the fact that it is in the wrong place.

If the new Aeronautica Museum manages to get the go-ahead the Titanic experience would be part of a great attraction. When will those on an ego trip take notice of us who care about Southampton?

KEN STREET, Southampton.

The sea city museum should have complimented the city centre but it doesn't.
Other people say it should have been built by the docks?
yes it's a pity both aeronautica & the sea city museum couldn't have been built side by side by the waters edge but the docks have now stopped Aeronautica from being built there so is there a site near the city centre for it?
Maybe knock down Toys R Us?
the problem would be they say they must be near the water?
you have people visiting the art& cultural centre if both museums had been close by maybe those people would have taken a look.
I can't knock a council that's at least trying to take this city forward after countless years of stagnation under Labour

You speak of countless years of stagnation under Labour.

Perhaps you would remind me of the benefits that countless years of Tory rule brought to Southampton.

I liked the bus station & was sad to see it go but Marlands isn't to bad.
I was angry at the time that a director of Portsmouth FC put up obstacles for a new stadium next to the train station but with hindsight I don't think he was asking for much.
An athletic/football stadium wit a peppercorn rent which saints objected to as they would have to subsidise Athletics?
Is St Marys in full use through the summer months?
Now we have the West Quay shopping area which brings in many shoppers from outside the city so love or hate it it's a good investment.
Labour promised when/if they got elected they would become a unilateral council & this would mean lower rates/council tax & we could spend it where it was needed not all over Hampshire, I believed them voted for them & they lied.
Brindle put up tax year after year gave herself a pay rise every year, allowed a Mosque to be built on a prime site & charged peanuts meaning the majority of this city lost out on a valuable income.
Then they had the cheek to admit being a unilateral council was dearer as we had to employ more staff,
Now Labour are talking about joining services with other councils cutting jobs.
is this much different than being run from Winchester?
