IT’S amazing how easy it is for people to grasp the wrong end of the stick, as demonstrated by Philip G. Hawkins (Letters, January 20).
He interprets the Government’s intent for two alcohol-free days per week as licence to drink more on the other five.
Of course the obvious intention is that this magnanimous coalition Government will pay for all the drinks on two alcohol-free days per week. Now, I’m sure you’ll drink to that, Mr Philip G. Hawkins, and I’ll join you.
D R. SMITH, Southampton.
