I HAVE noted various letters regarding lack of birds in gardens.
I reckon they must all be in ours. At the bottom end we have a mass of magpies (very entertaining if you watch them, like naughty children) they also do a great job of cleaning out the gutterings.
Masses of jackdaws and on cold days masses of seagulls.
We also have nuthatch, bullfinch, goldfinch, chaffinch, robins, Jenny wrens, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, starlings, blackbirds, blackcaps, great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, wagtails, woodpigeons, various types of dove, hedge sparrows, but this year we are lacking greenfinches and bramblings. I don’t know where they have gone!
The chaffinches actually roost in a big bush we have in the garden, about 60 or more of them swoop in there when it starts to get dark.
In the night we turn into a mammal garden, visited by deer, badgers and foxes.
A veritable nature reserve of our own and a real joy to watch.
C WILLIAMS, Sarisbury Green.
