YET another “super innovative” idea from Southampton City Council to extract more cash from the private sector without any definitive statement on how it intends to ensure it will only be spent on specific projects (“£10,000 tax on each new home”, Daily Echo, February 6).

The reality is the monies will simply end up in the overall taxation pot.

The council will follow normal procedures, because it only knows how to spend money and not how to get the best out of that which it has.

Building contractors will simply add the extra cost to the price of the home, and so hitting the hopes of first-time buyers of getting on to the housing ladder, causing them to be despondent when finding their deposit requirement has been extended yet again.
