Mixed message by closing Remploy

I AM very disappointed at the Government’s decision to cut funding to Remploy, who provide employment services to people with disabilities, resulting in the likely closure of the Southampton site.

By cutting both disability benefits and disability employment services, the Government is sending a mixed message to disabled people: does the Government want them to work or doesn’t it?

The Green Party share the Government’s view that people with disabilities should be able to access mainstream employment where appropriate, but unlike the Government, we recognise that this is not always possible.

We have pledged that we will not cut any services or benefits serving vulnerable groups of people.

CHRIS BLUEMEL, South West Hampshire Green Party.

Disabled services like every other service needs to pull their own weight. Every service has to be paid for and those people who manage to obtain employment are left to pay for those that don't work. Of which there are far too many immigrants not even paying into the system. I have heard it said that the Polish come to the country take a couple years of our social benefits and then fly back to their own country to live like kings. I understand some people cannot work and in that situation the social service is needed but otherwise it should pay for itself.
