Saved post office has a lot more

First published in Readers' Letters

I HAVE lived in the Bassett and Swaythling areas of Southampton most of my life (80-plus years) and would like people to know we have some really good independent shops.

When Ginny and Stuart moved out of the area, we could have lost our local post office. So many are closing and are often the hub of the community. But thanks to Jigna and Yagnesh, who own Morfair, we do not have to travel to Portswood or the University post offices. They decided to keep the Swaythling post office running in their shop.

Morfair is on the corner of Fleming Road and High Road, a small friendly shop with owners and staff knowing so many of their customers by name.

Also they do a weekly delivery and if you are not able to get into the shop they will take your order by phone and deliver! This helps a lot of people, like me, a pensioner.

Nothing is too much trouble for them and they get some very good offers as well. The friendly service is what makes a local business so pleasant. We have lost so many of our shops in Burgess Road and High Road to fast food outlets.

Now that we have kept our local post office, let’s not lose any more!
