Parking headache

I AM writing to complain about the cars parked in Calmore Road, Totton, in the vicinity of Totton College. This practice has been ongoing for a very long time and has become a hazard for the traffic travelling along Calmore Road.

I believe the cars belong to students/people attending Totton College. Why cannot parking spaces be provided on the grounds of Totton College? If there is not enough space to house these cars which park on Calmore Road, then please can parking facilities be reviewed? I have been told that parking on the college grounds has to be paid by the students if they are to park there. If this is the case then please can this be addressed to enable all attending the college to have places to park on the college grounds?

MJ BUNDY, Southampton.

During the school term, Calmore Road, is usually reduced to a single-track road with passing places (if you're lucky). This also holds good for Barnsfield Crescent, sometimes to the extent of blocking the road for lager vehicles. This happened last week when a vehicle, adorned with a green "P" plate, managed to park on the crescent directly opposite to a line of previously parked vehicles, thereby creating a gap too small for a car to get through. Totton College's attitude to this would appear to be "Not our problem".
The number of "Road-rage" incidents will increase, and I am just waiting for the more-or-less inevitable accident to occur.

Time for a ticketing blitz and yellow lines outside college or maybe residents parking zone.
The college must be made responsible for their student parking or funding cuts will need to be an incentive to comply

Yes Calmore Road is bad but Water Lane is arguably a greater victim to this College parking. As Totton College seems largely to be for the benefit of local businesses nowadays, rather than a public authority sixth-form surely they can afford proper parking? On weekdays it is positively dangerous, if you add school-run mums in badly driven oversize vehicles to the equation it cannot be long before there is a serious accident. Not to mention residents who park in bus stops! We highlighted these concerns many moons ago to a faceless Hampshire councillor who was called in by the local council to sort out this mess. What was their recommendation? Evil speed humps which have only added to the chaos, danger and line of sight problems already inherent along this road. The college should have been moved before it got this big but that is never going to happen now....
