Get 10A bus running and OAPs will be so grateful
10:50am Thursday 31st May 2012 in Readers' Letters
IN reply to Mr Jim Brown’s comment about 10A bus Northeast Road, Sholing – it’s nearly all OAP flats in this road and the bus is very needy to them.
It’s the only bus we can get to city centre and Woolston as when they took the number 6 from this route, it was the only bus to Bitterne and was never replaced. Now, we have no bus at all and most of these OAPs have walking problems. So, come on, Labour councillors – get this bus back on as promised – it said vote Labour to save 10A bus which had already stopped running on April 29.
Now, most of us are housebound.
M. HEATH, Sholing, Southampton.

So let me guess you want a bus stop right outside your flats yes?
Are you going to pay full fare or do you expect us to pay for your free travel?
don't mention bus passes as these only cover a third of the price of a ticket.
As a fare payer my costs continue to rise when I asked why? It's explained to me the government promised to cover the full cost but never did(Labour) & it was left to local councils.
they raised the payment up to a third of the fare but even if you have people standing up then they only get a third or just over of the cost so they have to get their money from somewhere so the fare payers have to pay more or the service is cut.
So would you people be willing to pay a small amount or do you want a freebie?

but they did not use it when it was running so why do they need it know its not ??
The problem I've been trying to point out is even if OAP's fill the bus the company is only getting a third of the fare for each person so it becomes uneconomical.
Many pensioners on this subject have said they'd be willing to contribute to the cost.
but would you run a loss making route?
I have a friend who's got a bus pass but drives his car.
how many OAP's could financially afford to pay the fare?
Why not chip in & get a transit van to run them about?
