Mayor’s car should have British roots

I WAS pleased to note your editorial comment (Daily Echo, Saturday, May 19) which endorsed the continued supply, and use of, a suitable car for the mayor of Southampton.

The photograph on page 19 of the same issue showed a splendid view of the Austin Limousine provided in 1957 for civic duties.

I do have one proviso, the vehicle should be of a make which can trace its origins back to Great Britain. A car we could be proud of with the registration number TR 1.

D.M., Southampton.

And the British car could be a what? Do we make any British cars anymore? I was to understand that the present car was sponsored by the supplier.

Use a vehicle that has local connections.

A Ford Transit.

Why not? They have a local connection.

An alternative would be to have a horse drawn gypsy caravan.
