Glorious names

WHEN I was a young lad growing up in a naval family I used to think that the words ‘send her victorious, happy and glorious’ in the National Anthem referred to ships of the Royal Navy as I had heard of HMS’s Victorious and Glorious.

Today on the actual date of the Queen’s Jubilee I was motivated to check if there had ever been an HMS Happy and was a little surprised to discover that such a ship had existed until 1804.

Would it not be fantastic if the next three ships built for the Royal Navy in this year could be named Victorious, Happy and Glorious?

More importantly, "God Save the Queen" is nowhere near as good as "Rule Britannia", which should be the nation anthem.
It is far more upbeat and British sounding than the dirge that is GStQ.
