MRS Creasor (Letters, June 15) is right to be proud of Totton for its splendid Diamond Jubilee display of Union flags and I should like to add my thanks to everyone who put so much voluntary time and effort into making this possible.
We are especially grateful to businesses which were so generous in their sponsorship and to local councillors who contributed so much effort and financial support to put on such a good show in our wonderful town. Thank you, too, to members of Totton and Eling Carnival Committee for all your practical help.
Mrs Creasor mentioned the relative lack of participation in Rumbridge Street. We were let down at the last minute by one of our suppliers before the street could be covered. Nevertheless, we feel great pride in marking this Jubilee year and look forward to doing it all again when the Queen reaches the next great milestone of her reign in overtaking Queen Victoria as the longest reigning monarch of all time.
CLLR NEVILLE PENMAN, Totton.
