Sink housing benefit policy, Cameron

PRIME Minister David Cameron and his happy band of millionaires have announced they will in the near future withdraw all housing benefits to the under 25-year-olds.

I think it’s about time some party, even the hapless Lib Dems, show some backbone and tell this so-called coalition government (which it is not), to think again, as this scheme will throw tens of thousands out on the streets.

I have even had some “right wingers” I know state “it’s about time this rabble were made to pay their way and get off benefits and earn a living”.

It must be said in all societies a proportion of its people do fall into the category of “spongers”. This should not apply to the many thousands of the semiskilled and skilled, who find their factory gates shut, wards being closed, police stations shut, even our own military being informed they are no longer required as we are going to have parttimers.

So I would say to you, Mr Cameron, and indeed most of our past leaders, think what you are doing.

Bring out a far more sensible law to stop immigration tomorrow and deport all the people from overseas who have no right to be here.

To all our long-term immigrants I would say “thanks” for what you have done for HMS Blighty and should we sink with too many on board we would at least go down to Neptune’s pad singing ‘Perhaps Britannia Didn’t Rule the Waves After All’.

God help us.

HUGH CLEVERLY, Eastleigh.

Despite pre-election talk of how much he admires and respects the armed forces, now that he is in power Cameron is overseeing a cutback in our armed forces. This will, no doubt, result in some servicemen who are under 25, have a family and living in married quarters, find that they no longer have either a job or accommodation. Surely these young people, who have been prepared to put their lives on the line for their country have earned the right to expect better treatment and not lose out on housing benefit because of their age.
