Cyclists who have no consideration
4:44pm Tuesday 3rd July 2012 in Readers' Letters
I RECENTLY stayed at my son’s house in Hamble and walked from the Tesco store down to Coronation Parade most days. But what I want to say is the people on pushbikes have no consideration at all and it’s adults!
I was so shocked to see how fast they go with no intention of slowing down. I think I would have been safer on the main road, it’s really shocking. They have finished work and are crazy, just wanting to get home at any cost.
MRS J DERRICK, Eastleigh.

Traffic lights are just illuminations as far as some of them are concerned, and pedestrian crossings are used to ride on instead of walk.
They cause more accidents than enough, but precious few of them bother with insurance.

I know I dare say most of the cyclists drive cars aswell, but at least they have experienced the fear at first hand from city traffic.
I am not convinced that it is cyclists causing most accidents. There are thousands of casualties on the roads because of cars, many of them pedestrians. I would say there are only a handful of casualties where a cyclist has injured a pedestrian or caused a car to crash.

The paving is often too narrow for bikes and pedestrians, but this is the Hants County Council approach. What they should have done is reduced the speed of traffic, changed the speed limit along the whole stretch to 30mph.
Put yourself on a bike and try and navigate some of these areas before bellyaching.
And Linesman, you know the figures, I gave them to you last time iirc.

Who really wants to ride on the pavement, stopping at every minor road and dodging unpredictable pedestrians?

I made that 3 years ago. When I rode it on Sunday morning it is in worse condition, a few signs missing, no clear markings on the ground at all now.
And far too narrow to get anywhere within a decent time frame. Remember, cyclists travel slower than drivers, but if the road was built with such start-stop problems people would be on the street with placards.

I see the usual whinging idiots in Stupid Lycra are defending their undefendable attitude about terrorising the pedestrians who are legally using the pavements.

I and others have explained several times why these conflicts occur. And this is a shared-use path

Stop trying to run pedestrians down, flaunting the rules then I and many others might have a little more respect for you. I am still waiting for your constructive ides that we can both debate

pite there being warning notices on the lamp posts that they could be fined for doing so,although these signs are high up on the lamposts,so i guess the excuse would be,"I DIDN'T SEE IT".I witness this on a daily basis but nothing seems to be done about this continual problem, what will it take before action is taken ?
