We have cabbies to be proud of

I FEEL I must stick up for taxi drivers. My husband was in the General Hospital on several occasions and because of my disability I used taxis to visit him.

Bitterne Cabs going and Shirley Cabs coming home on every occasion. The drivers were polite, and helpful, lifting my walking frame in and out of the boot.

Also, a lady living opposite to me was using various taxis to go shopping, and whenever I happened to see her coming home the taxi driver took her shopping to her front door.

Unfortunately, as in a lot of provisions, the ignorant few give the rest a bad name.

I'd like to respond to Mrs. Anne Swatton letter regarding Southampton Cabbies. I worked for years at Sonic TV, which was right next door to Bitterne Cabs and it was easy to run in and order a cab. I can say that every Monday they picked my mother up, always on time and very polite. I would like to inform anybody that uses Bitterne Cabs, due to some reason they are now BITTERNE CARS and at the same address and their new phone number is 023 8043 3000. If you are a users of Bitterne Cabs, the lads all but two are still at the same address. I will say that I am not Cab Driver advertising the Company.

My experience of cabs in Southampton is extremely positive. I cannot recall ever being let down other than by being a minute or two late and that is usually down to traffic conditions.

However, I find the taxi rates in Southampton to be very high. I don’t know how our rates compare to other cities. Perhaps the Echo could investigate.
