REGARDING Shirley Precinct market: That’s more like it!
For months now we have had a market on a Thursday. I went once or twice when I had to get stamps from the Post Office, but it was a waste of time. A few stalls selling the same thing, so I didn’t bother any more.
Today, though, what a difference! It really was a market. So many stalls, different and interesting, fresh produce, home cooked pies and cakes, cheeses, meat, eggs, jewellery, clothes, bags, everything was there, except a sweet stall. The sun was shining for a change, a soft breeze was blowing and people were smiling.
There were chairs and tables for people to have tea and coffee. There was a freshly cooked chip stall (the chips, not the stall). The lardy cakes were to die for. As were the cream buns, like the ones you could once buy at Lomans.
I can’t walk very far without aids, but it was such a pleasure at Shirley Market. I almost forgot my aches and pains.
Let’s hope it will be the same next Thursday.
