Double summer time

I SHOULD think by now it is noticeable the earth is moving away from the sun.

What would have been too much of an experiment to have tried another hour forward with clocks – eight weeks each way from the longest day.

It is no good trying David Cameron’s idea, which has been tried once without success.

Two of Britain’s race courses have gone under the hammer now, Hereford and Folkstone, with chances of more to follow.

If on double summer time race courses could introduce a starting time of 7.30pm, with no interference elsewhere.

An evening at the races can bring as much entertainment as just at home looking at one’s television set.

The biggest saving everywhere is on electricity consumption.

After all the favourable response on such a project the question rests entirely on who is in the Home Office, Queen Anne’s Gate, London, SW1H 9HT.

DAVID GILES, Southampton .

Good idea and if the Scots are not happy they do not have to join in.

So you are really starting a campaign to save the ailing racing industry.........
Think you'll need more than this !!!
Folkestone in particular was way beyond saving, as are many others.

.. personally I celebrate when race courses go under - a cruel sport intimately linked to the evil of gambling.

However, I fully agree we should try 'double summertime' - bring it on.

On a rather minor point, the earth is not now 'moving away from the sun.' Far from it, our planet is actually nearer to the sun in northern hemisphere winters.
