A SOUTHAMPTON marathon is planning to going ahead despite worries it could be cancelled due to Coronavirus.
While mass running events across the world such as the Tokyo Marathon and Paris Half Marathon have not gone ahead as a result of the virus, ABP Southampton Marathon say they are closely monitoring the situation.
Amid fears the London Marathon could be cancelled, organisers of the Southampton marathon claim they have been working closely with Southampton City Council and public bodies.
They also said they are “aware that other marathons have been disrupted in areas where the virus has become widespread”.
A statement by ABP Southampton Marathon organisers ReesLeisure reads: “The ABP Southampton Marathon intends to go ahead on Sunday April 26 2020 as planned unless otherwise recommended by the Government and local authorities where there is deemed to be a risk.
“This advice will be updated as the event date draws closer. We are in regular communications with Southampton City Council and local health public bodies.”
If travelling to an affected area before the race, check to see if it is essential travel.
Also, if returning within two weeks of the event date from a place affected by coronavirus, organisers have recommended that you do not attend the marathon.
A race entry can be deferred to the 2021 Marathon or refunded.
If you feeling unwell on race day, organisers advise to not travel to the race or take part in the event.
