PLAYER of the season Adam Armstrong believes Saints supporters can make Friday an even better day as they gear up to face West Brom in a playoff semi-final second leg.

The club have urged Saints fans to back the team with vocal support at St Mary's as they bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Neither Saints nor West Brom hold an advantage heading into the second leg after a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns.

However, Southampton are hopeful they can make St Mary's an intimidating place for the Baggies players.

"It's going to be enjoyable. The fans have been amazing all season," Armstrong told club media ahead of Friday's game.

"What a way it would be to hopefully win the second leg and get through to Wembley.

"I've never been in the playoffs before. I was chatting to the lads the other day about how it is the first time for a lot of us.

"These are the games that you want to be involved in. We are lucky enough to be able to play in two semi-finals.

"These moments are what you become a footballer for. If we can get there with the fans right behind us that would make the day even better.

"To play at Wembley and get to the Premier League, the best league in the world, with your mates (would be) the best thing."

Armstrong was named Southampton's players' player of the season and fans' player of the season for his goalscoring exploits this season.

"The fans have been unbelievable this year, especially with me, they have given us that confidence," he added.

"(We want to) repay them as well. I have done well this season, we went on that amazing run, let's hope we can take that form into the playoffs."
