GOLF club memberships in Southampton are the least affordable in the country.
So says GolfSupport.com, which has calculated how long residents in 18 different towns and cities outside London would have to work to buy a golf membership, based on the area's average weekly wage.
It concluded that Southampton residents would have to work 79 hours, 42 minutes.
That was based on the average cost of a golf club membership in Southampton being £1,086.40 and a typical weekly wage being £545.40.
Only Bristol (where the average weekly wage is £607.20) was found to have more expensive memberships (£1,107.20).
Newcastle-upon-Tyne has the most affordable membership packages (41 hours, 36 minutes’ work).
